In 1969, the Claretians were invited to the Diocese of Richmond, Virginia to assume ministry of Saint Mary of Sorrows Church in Fairfax Station. During their tenure, they changed Saint Mary’s to a tithing parish, which allowed a percentage of all collected funds to go towards social causes and action. The Claretians remained at Saint Mary of Sorrows until the summer of 1990 when their contract with the diocese expired.
