The Claretian U.S.A. Province was transferred administration of the Claretian mission in Panamá in 1927. The previous year, Father John Maíztegui CMF was named Vicar Apostolic of Darién, eventually being appointed Archbishop of Panamá in 1934. Another Claretian, Father Joseph Preciado was ordained a bishop and appointed to the Apostolic Vicariate of Darién in his stead.
These photographs show the work the Claretians were doing with the Indigenous populations, notably the Kuna and Chocó, on the San Blas Islands, Narganá, and the Province of Darién. The Claretian U.S.A. Province ceased administration of the mission in Panamá in 1952 when it became an independent Claretian province.
